Event Description for Calendar:The movies are carefully chosen in their capacity to represent a part of German history and/or culture. The series will begin with Das Weiße Band (The White Ribbon), a murder mystery set in a rural feudal Protestant village in northern Germany during 1913/14, on the brink of World War I. This haunting period piece portrays how hidden fascist sentiments are passed down from the parents to their children and make them susceptible to later Nazi influences. According to its director, the film is about "the origin of every type of terrorism, be it of political or religious nature." 2010 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film; Nominated for two Academy Awards (Cinematography, Best Foreign Film).
Presenters: Christine Anton and Julia Carduck.
