Event Description for Calendar:Journeys into the Unknown (Archival Digital Prints on Canvas) Julia Kjelgaard earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and studied painting and printmaking at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Kjelgaard studied mixed media printmaking at the University of Alberta, Canada, and received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. She is chair and senior lecturer of the Visual Arts Department at Emory University.“My work has always been about learning to see and appreciate the unseen: meaning both the mental concepts and ideas that inspire and engage us, and the inner emotions and processes that are in balance with our minds. It is this interaction or negotiation between the heart and the mind, which interests me the most.” “I am fascinated by the ideas of simultaneity and complexity that pass from traditional humanities and intersect with contemporary science. My artworks utilize collaboration between the mechanically reproduced and the hand made to assist us to see the chaotic yet beautiful nature of the world in which we live.”
